Essential Things to Know While Setting Up a Wedding Registry

Planning a wedding involves various activities such as buying invitations, deciding the location and its decoration and so on. Setting up a registry is also an integral part of marriage planning. At the ceremony, your invitees will bring presents, but if you do not wish to have a large number of useless items, you should create one. Like other aspects of wedding planning, you should handle it carefully.

While setting up a registry, you should be familiar with the following things.

Create it on time and know your interests:

It is essential to set up a registry right after the engagement. Some of your guests may give you gifts before the wedding. If you do not set up one on time, they will not know what items to give and they may bring undesired ones. While making a list, you must know your interests and hobbies. You should try to avoid traditional items and include those you love. However, you should be careful as your interests can change in the future and these things may end up lying in the dustbin.

Make a list of items you currently have and select more than one store:

You should discuss with your spouse and make a list of items both of you have and still want. If you do not take this into account, you may get items you already have and do not want to have loads of these. After making a list, you will have to pick a store. In my opinion, you should select more than one store. Doing so will give your invitees more options to select. You can also select different shops for different items. For example, you can create a registry for bedclothes at bedding store and one for utensils at crockery store. Thus, you can also avoid setting up a list of the same items at different stores.

Know your guests:

While you are setting up a registry, you should have knowledge of the status of guests. In your list, you should include items which your guests can bring easily. However, it does not mean that you cannot mention expensive things because some of your closest relatives or friend can bring the costly one by contribution. In this list, you can also include different items for different guests. For example, you can describe traditional items for old family member and affordable and funny items for the friends.

Try to mention items more than the number of guests:

When you create a list of items, you should be careful about the number of guests. If this list contains a few items, your guests will be confused what to bring and if you mention too many, you may not get desired items. Therefore, you must mention two or three items for each guest. Doing so will not make you look greedy; actually you are making things easier for guests by giving them many options.

Finally, when this list is completed, you should not send it with wedding cards as it will indicate that you are directly asking guests to bring presents. Therefore, you can either publish on a website or send it with bridal shower invitations.

Well, these are useful suggestions which you should keep in mind while setting up a wedding registry.
